الجغرافيا السياسية
أُعلن السودان في يناير 1899 ملكاً مشتركاً (حكماً ثنائياً) لبريطانيا ومصر وتحول فعلياً إلى مستعمرة بريطانية؛ وألغى البرلمان المصري اتفاقية 1899 في 15 أكتوبر 1951 (الموسوعة الروسية الكبرى، أورلوف).
الثقافة
طوّرت سياسة الجنوب الإقليمَ الجنوبي بمعزل: حُظر التبشير الإسلامي وشُجعت البعثات المسيحية، واعتمدت مدارس البعثات الإنجليزية بينما صارت العربية لغة الشمال.
الاقتصاد
بلغ خط سكة حديد كتشنر الخرطوم، ورُبط بالبحر الأحمر 1905 (تأسيس بورتسودان وعطبرة)، ومُدّ إلى سنار ثم بلغ كردفان بحلول 1911؛ وافتُتح خط سنار–بورتسودان 1924. والقطن المصري طويل التيلة؛ ومشروع الجزيرة المروي بخزان سنار؛ ومنطقة القاش؛ واتفاقية مياه النيل 1929.
