Geopolitics
Since the 2023 war, the RSF is reported to be increasingly crossing into CAR, doing business and recruiting fighters from armed groups there, while a UN report confirms the Sudanese army stepping up air raids along the CAR border; Crisis Group says the incursions have greatly worsened criminal violence in the north, especially Vakaga prefecture (ICG_RADAR2024, 21 Jun 2024) [VERIFY]. UNHCR reports allegations of RSF presence in Vakaga, which hosts most Sudanese refugees in CAR; most arrive via Am Dafock, 65 km from Birao, and the Korsi settlement at Birao held 11,196 refugees by 13 Apr 2024 (UNHCR_CAR2024) [VERIFY]. Colonial Ubangi-Shari and pre-2023 relations not covered by a read source [thin].
